W EEKLY EDITION JUNE 21, 2017 Part II of III: And The Survey Says… Employee Issues, Growth and Waste Disposal Top the List of Portable Sanitation Company Concerns As the employment landscape tightens, employee issues top the list of company leaders' struggles. In the survey we asked the open - ended question, "What are the biggest challenges you deal with every day?" An analysis of the responses produced this word cloud; words that were mentioned the most often a re the largest. As you can see, words like "employees," "finding," and "people" are quite common. Although other topics are also on the minds of respondents, these topics take a dominant position. "What are the biggest challenges you deal with every day ?" • "Employees" – as a single word , this answer came up numerous times, as did related single word terms like "Staffing," "Labor," and "Manpower." • Comments related to employee recruitment and retention were also common. "Hiring and retaining qualified personnel" and related answers like "Hiring good people," "Finding and retaining employees," "Keeping quality employees," and "Turnover" came up repeatedly . • Leaders are concerned about the portable sanitation industry's ability to compete with other industries in areas that matter to employees. Answers such as "Labor, wages, and benefits" and "Dwindling workforce" seem to sum up these sentiments. Other common areas of concern include: • Safety • Controlling expenses and the cost of doing business • Generating sales and getting paid for the work We also asked a longer term question. "What are the biggest issues you expect your company will face in the next five years?" Thinking down a longer horizon, respondents continued to voice worries about the workforce, but they added a few more areas the y expect to wrestle with in the next few years as shown in the word cloud to the left.
