W EEKLY EDITION JUNE 14, 2017 A Message on Membership from Overseas …continued PSAI International Member Alison Elliot of Ellco Rentals Ltd. in Barbados give her perspective on PSAI Membership for international companies Ellco Rentals Ltd is a portable sanitation company based on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean, renting to both the construction and event industry with an inventory that includes both single and trailer units. We have been a n international member of the Portable Sanitation Association International for over 30 years. We were the first company to introduce portable sanitation to Barbados, therefore, we not only had to educate ourselves in the industry but also our customers, public health officials and legislative departments. As we were a fledgling industry in our country, we needed an educative and credible source for every aspect of the business. We were introduced to the PSAI by our portable toilet supplier. From the sta rt, the name says it all. Here was an Association that was recognized internationally, that we could turn to for advice, credible source for information, education, exchange of ideas and of course friendship and camaraderie. "Our" Association has helped i n so many ways over the years: It has added credibility to our Company and the industry with local authorities, contractors and working with foreign based contractors and event teams. Not only at management level but for all service technicians or anyone involved in the industry. The certification programme is curren t and topical. It gives knowledge and pride to earn certification in the industry and to be recog nized as a professional. The more recently added resources such as on - line training are invaluable for distance training. Indeed, we have already taken part in live internet training which is ideal for overseas companies. Conventions, Seminars and Nuts an d Bolts meetings – For International members the consideration of attending a Convention with expensive long - haul travel plus time away is not undertaken lightly. However, the experience is invaluable. We always say if we come away with one good idea it ha s been worth it. And we always come away with a great deal more than just one idea! To list a few: • Education through seminars. From legislation, accounting, to advertising. • Professional speakers from IT issues to motivation. • A chance to meet suppliers face to face, perhaps a deal is struck! • Round table discussions with others with the same problems and issues. Why reinvent the wheel when someone has already done it! • Exchange of ideas. The common ground of understanding. • Friendship and camaraderie. P AGE 2 CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
