California Portable Restroom Company Leaders Plead Guilty to
Illegal Disposal ...continued
"DeJon g… and Van Dam admitted that th ey directed the firm's maintenance employees to design, purchase and install the
pumps, grinders and settling tanks used to illegally pump waste into sewer lines at the Diamond locations.
De Jong acknowledged that he directed a contractor to install conne ctions to sewer lines at the company's facilities in San
Marcos and San Diego. Those hookups were unknown to the municipal sewer districts and were used to discharge the
trucked waste into sewers, court documents state.
The company admitted that employees concealed the existence of the illicit sewer connections from inspectors by placing
a portable toilet over the connections during inspections.
The defendants also conceded that Van Dam falsely understated the volume of wastewater that would be discharged per
day at Diamond facilities in San Diego and Perris to the San Diego Metropolitan Industrial Waste Control Program and the
Eastern Municipal Water District, respectively.

PS AI spoke with Eric DeJon g on June 6. He shared the following statement:
"[Diamond Environmental Services] has been actively cooperating with several agencies in relation to treated and diluted
sewage that was introduced into the sewer system without the correct permits. Diamond has committed to paying any
permit fees and related fines. Most importantly, Diamond remains committed to ensuring a safe and clean environment
and continues to make public safety and cleanliness a priority."
In addition, Eric expressed deep concern regarding the impact this case would have on the public's perception of portable
sanitation in general. DES has resigned as a Member of the PSAI stating, "We don't want our problems to cause a black eye
for the whole industry."
Acc ording to the DES website, the company was founded nearly twenty years ago and grew from a pumping and portable
restroom rental provider to a multi environmental services provider. Diamond also offers temporary fence, temporary power,
emergency services, r oll offs and storage rentals. The company employs approximately 300 workers.
