W EEKLY EDITION MAY 31, 2017 Progress on New Standards for Non - Sewered Waste Systems …continued Kos represents the PSAI at US Technical Advisory Group Meeting Kos believes these new systems will have significant implications for the portable sanitation industry. Although not all of the technologies will be portable, it is likely they – and this new standard - will impact our industry. • Some of the technologies are being designed as portable or semi - permanent, which will provide business opportunities and competition for PSAI Members. • The new standard includes technical requirements for design, reliability, safety, and ergonomics which are likely to impact the design for all restrooms in the future. • The "back ends" of the new systems contain small - scale waste processing technology which may provide options that can supplement POTW for portable sanitation companies. The PSAI Board made the decision to engage the organization in the work of helping to set new international standards in areas related to portable sanitation, disposal, and the processing of waste in early 2016. Funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foun dation offsets most of the cost of the PSAI's participation in these activities.
