Claiming Your Business on Google
By Chelsey Masich, PSAI Member and Data Services

Listing your business on Google is an easy way to take
control over what is shown when your business or company
shows up in a search or map. It is a chance to give the public
your contact information quickly and accurately at no cost to
you.
What goes in the listing?
The essentials are your compa ny name, address, and phone
number. Include a website if you have one. You can also add
photos and business hours. Photos can help customers
understand your products and services. You can also include
pictures of the outside of your building. Business hour s are
helpful if customers will need to visit your place of business
in person.
A Google Business listing is a great place for customers to leave reviews. There is also the opportunity for
you to reply in case there are questions or concerns that need to be addressed in the review.
How to get started
Try searching for your business. You will want to make sure that the information in the results is accurate. It's
also a good opportunity to see if your business has a listing or if it's been claimed already. Another option is
to search for your industry (portable restrooms, trucks, insurance, etc.) in your area to see where you fall in the
results.
The accuracy of the information listed is very important. This listing may be a customer's first impression of
your company. Make it as easy as possible for them to contact you. If it is not simple to understand, they
may move on to a different company for their needs.
If you have already claimed your business, make sure to keep it up to date with current contact information.
Inaccurate information can be frustrating for anyone trying to contact you. Keeping your information
consistent across all digital platforms is important as well. This includes abbreviations (such as Ave. vs.
Avenue).
