W EEKLY EDITION APRIL 5, 2017 PAGE 2 The PSAI's Days are Numbered …continued But the Number is a Big One Every year when we analyze the survey results, we always learn something valuable. Sometimes, the findings affirm that we are on the right track. Other ti mes, we realize we need to evolve to meet the industry's changing needs. Our development of portable sanitation - specific courses for delivery online, our focus on raising standards, the addition of a purchasing program, and even the content of this weekly newsletter are examples of how the survey information turns into results for our Members. By the way, we always share the highlights of the survey results in the newsletter – so you can see what your peers are saying about the issues as well. It's essentia l that we "take the temperature" of the industry at least annually so that our association's evolution can be measured and in keeping with the pace of change in the portable sanitation industry as a whole. Inevitably when an association changes or updates things too quickly - or does so after a long period of staying the same - it brings about a mix of emotions and responses. While the PSAI Board will not be shy about making necessary changes when changes are needed, our goal is to see things coming and mak e the adjustments in a manner that minimizes negative reactions wherever possible. But let's get back to the premise that days are numbers for associations that don't change as they need to. This is certainly as true of the PSAI as it is of any other asso ciation. We anticipate that significant transformations will be occurring in the portable sanitation industry over next 10 years. Disposal systems and requirements, the evolution of portable units in response to the "Reinvent the Toilet Challenge," and the impact of new technologies on all aspects of the operation are likely to drive changes in Member companies – and also our association if we wish to remain relevant. I don't yet know what form these changes will take – we have to figure that out based on t he feedback we get from industry members like you and a critical appraisal of important forces that affect our industry. These include evolving technologies; laws, regulations, and standards; public perception, market demand, and so on. I believe that ass ociations in general – and the PSAI in particular - can and will thrive well into the future. We just need to change with the times, preferably at a pace that doesn't give anyone whiplash. If we do this, our days are numbered and it is a BIG number. What are your thoughts? Please give us your feedback through the survey at http://psaisurvey2017.questionpro.com , or give me a call any time. I look forward to the conversation. The deadline for submitting feedback is April 27 at 9:00am central time.
