It is Awards Season! Nominate Your Favorite Portable Sanitation Professional by February 1 Now, the award will live on in their name – something that is especially poignant since Glenda Anthony passed away after a short illness in early 2016. Flay remains a dedicated volunteer, and he is a tough act to follow – though he'd be the first to offer to help you do so. Members and suppliers are who you want to nominate, so don't delay – do it today! 2016 winner Steve Brinton of Satellite Industries in Pl ymouth, Minnesota says: " I received the Flay and Glenda Anthony Volunteer award in 2016. Actually it meant a great deal to me due to the respect and admiration I hold for the Anthonys. To be recognized by them and the industry was quite a surprise and hono r. I volunteered for duties and activities in the industry because they needed to be accomplished not to receive recognition. The PSAI is a volunteer organization and I am pleased to help. " 2015 winner and award namesake Flay Anthony, retired from PortaJohn of the Piedmont in Gastonia, North Carolina says: " Glenda and I always said the reason we enjoyed volunteering for PSAI was because it gave us an opportunity to give back to an industry that had given so much to us. While volunteering we met so many people who shared ideas and helped us learn how to build a successful portable restroom operation. As a volunteer you have the opportunity to help create new programs and help shape the future of our industry, thus helping others in the industry. To have an award named in your honor is a very humbling experience and it was quite a surprise and quite an honor for us. Additionally, I think if Glenda were here she would say the time we spent as volunteers was fun, exciting at times and a wonderful way to meet people and grow friendships that will last a lifetime. Glenda would also say, "Get involved and start enjoying the rewards!" Information about how to nominate worthy candidates for the se awards can be found on page 7 of this newsletter. Do it to day – the deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2017. W EEKLY EDITION JAN 25, 2017 Freeze on at the EPA The Associated Press reported Tuesday that the Trump administration has instituted a media blackout at the Environmental Protection Agency. The Agency has also barred staff from awarding any new contracts or grants. Emails sent to EPA staff since President Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday and reviewed by The Associated Press detailed the specific prohibitions banning press releases, blog updates or posts to the agency's soci al media accounts. The Trump administration has also ordered a "temporary suspension" of all new business activities at the department, including issuing task orders or work assignments to EPA contractors. The orders are expected to have a significant and immediate impact on EPA activities nationwide. The EPA did not respond to phone calls and emails requesting comment Monday or Tuesday. It is unclear at this time how these actions will affect the portable sanitation industry. Association Insight will pub lish additional information as it become available. P AGE 3
