WEEKLY EDITION December 7, 2016 Meet 2017 Convention and Trade Show Keynote Speaker #1! Dr. Daniel Yeh, a University of Sou th Florida Research Professor, will kick off the show with his piece on "Reinventing Sanitation and Energy Use for the Modern Market." As the PSAI prepares to enter the new year, there is one thing already on our minds for 2017: the 48 th PSAI Convention a nd Trade Show in Orlando, Florida. The annual event will run from March 15 to March 18 at the Caribe Royale Hotel. As in previous years, Thursday morning will include the first of three keynote sessions, where a guest speaker is invited to educate our me mbers on an industry related topic. Dr. Daniel Yeh is well known for his TED Talk on "Taking on the global grand challenges of water, energy, food and sanitation," (clic k to view it here ! ) among other accomplishments. He will take this topic and add a specific focus on sanitation and potential impacts on waste disposal. We are thrilled to offer a session on such a pertinent and important topic to the future of our industry! Dr. Daniel Yeh is an Associate Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Flo rida in Tampa. His research and teaching interests are related to sustainability, global water and sanitation, renewable bioenergy, urban water infrastructure, green buildings and climate resilience. A major focal area of his lab is the application of me mbrane biotechnology to accelerate the biorecycling of elements (waste to resource) in the built environment. Dr. Yeh's current projects include the development of advanced technologies to address the global sanitation crisis (NEWgenerator) and conversi on of wastewater treatment facilities into biorefineries for algae biofuel (ICARUS). In 2014, his research team won the 5th Cade Museum Prize for Innovation and was one of six winning teams selected for the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge: India, sponsored b y the government of India and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Yeh was also a recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Innovation Award at USF. A member of the National Academy of Inventors, he aims to foster a spirit of innovation among his students to advance research from lab to field to market. Dr. Yeh has degrees from the University of Michigan (BS Natural Resources, BSE Civil Engineering, MSE Environmental Engineering) and Georgia Tech (PhD Environmental Engineering). Prior to USF, he was a p ostdoctoral scholar at Stanford University. He is a licensed professional engineer, a board certified environmental engineer, and a LEED AP green building professional. We are excited to have Dr. Yeh as a part of our program this year and look forward to his presentation in March!
