Code of Excelle nce: Part 4
Excellence in Our Operations
On Site Sanitation, St. Paul, MN
This week we spoke with PSAI Board Vice President Karen Holm and husband Dave, owners of On Site Sanitation in St.
Pau l, Minnesota. At On Site, the company's core values include: Employees, Customers, Integrity, Financial Stability and
Dedication. With a mission of "consistently leading the organization with integrity and professionalism, providing an
enriching and reward ing environment for our employees, and striving for solid performance and prosperity for the
company" – On Site is an industry leader with a solid track record of Excellence in Operations.
Brand new training room at On Site
On Site recently remodeled th eir offices, and a top
initiative was to create a professional space
dedicated to training. Karen and Dave share, "We
have a driver safety meeting once a month, plus
many other administrative meetings that use the new
space. We now have an area for gatheri ng people
together that works well – and makes a positive
statement to our employees that training at On Site
is valued and important."
The Code states: We continuously train and improve our personnel to perform at the highest standard with
consistency th roughout the organization. All of our team members, regardless of position, are trained on
safety, company policies, operational procedures, and the governmental regulations that apply to our
organization and industry.
Code of Excellence goes in all new h ire packets
The Code is intended to paint a picture of what the best companies already do, what good
companies are working toward, and stand them in stark contrast to the companies that can
cause harm by not following these guidelines . At On Site, a copy o f the Code of Excellence
(click here or on the image (left) to download) is inserted into all new hire packets. Because the
drivers and staff at On Site have a lot of interface with clients, Karen and Dave share,
"Onboarding new employees and training is c ritical. Our new drivers work alongside certified
trainers for two weeks to ensure they have the right information and procedures. There's a similar
mentoring program with the administrative staff as well. "
In the introduction to the Code, PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos addresses members: "We aim for this Code of
Excellence to be a useful tool for recognizing and attaining excellence in the portable sanitation business. Of
course the PSAI can't require that nonmember companies adhere to the Code. We a nticipate, though, that
the PSAI's policy of requiring its members' commitment to operating in alignment with the Code's
guidelines will significantly improve both customers' experiences and the image of our industry."
