September 23, 2015 WEEKLY EDITION The long - term value of involvement By Eric Giffin First Year Operator Director, PSAI Board General Manager at Cal - State Site Services I have been impressed b y the level of organization, dedication and respect for the industry as a whole that is demonstrated by the PSAI Board. Respect doesn't stop with the industry, but extends to one another. While I am the "new kid on the block," I have never been made to fee l that way by my fellow board members. My opinion is not only sought after, but it is valued. I have been encouraged to get involved, and without fail, I learn something new at every meeting. Any one considering serving on the B oard should be prepared for a collaborative team atmosphere. It is important to be ready to listen to what others have to offer, while also being prepared with your own opinion about the matters at hand. Skills, talent and insight While the B oard is, at t he heart of it, a group of b lue - collar workers, professionalism is paramount. Each and every person brings skill, talent and insight gained from education and experience. Everyone brings something valuable to the table, and we all work together very well. I have already gained friend ships and business relationships that will last a lifetime. A contributing factor to the l evel of professionalism on the B oard is the commitment that each person has made and adhered to. The time commitment is probably the most important aspect to think t hrough for anyone considering a position on the board. It is not overbearing, however, there is a ce rtain amount of time that each B oard member must devote in order to have this be a mutually positive and beneficial e xperience for you and the PSAI. I am ve ry fortunate that Cal - State Site Services has supported this endeavor. They see the long - term, big picture value of our involvement in the organization. We can contribute to the improvement of our industry, and at the same time, we learn how we can do thin gs differently in order to serve our customers with excellence. Be ready for growth – both personal and professional If you are elected to a position on t he Board, be ready for growth: p ersonal growth, professional growth and growth in your business. You will be welcomed to a team of people who are committed to making positive changes in the industry, and to encouraging one another. Don't be afraid of the commitment – embrace it. Because of the experience, you will be a better operator and an industry lea der. The Nominating Committee is looking for PSAI members to fill openings on the Board. Please take the time to consider running for one of these slots or nominating someone else that you feel would be an asset to the Board. See page 2 for more informat ion on timing, guidelines and to download a nomination form.
