PSAI STANDARDS AND GUIDANCE COMMITTEE UPDATE By Eric Capers, Committee Co - chair CODE OF EXCELLENCE I'm excited to announce that the PSAI Board of Directors has unanimously approved our industry's new Code of Excel lence. I want to thank all of the committee members for the time and effort it took to write the code as well as the diligence it took to make sure it was both thorough and alig ned with our industry's needs. Ultimately, the document represents a stand ard by which, we as the Portable Sanitation Industry, can be perceived positively by all of our internal stakeholders as well as by the general public. Obviously, no document is perfect - but we feel that it is a very good guide for our current and future membership to the best practices employed by our industry. See page 2 for a complete timeline of the Code's development and review phases, and page 3 for information about a one - sheet brochure that your company can use to talk about our industry's commitme nt to excellence with your customers. For information about the Code of Excellence and to download your copy, visit www.psai.org/excellence . ANSI INITIATIVE Next stop…ANSI. The Standards and Guidance Committee is now tackling the project of getting the A merican National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards relevant to the portable sanitation industry updated and approved. As the Secretariat for these standards, PSAI has to follow a pretty stringent process in order to gain full approval by ANSI. This is a project that must be accomplished every five years. With the deadline for the current cycle coming up in August, our committee has made it a priority to complete the public review and balloting within a re latively short window of time. If there is anyone who would like to assist by reviewing the draft version of the updated standards, please email info@psai.org . RESTROOM AND SHOWER TRAILER REGULATIONS Our committee has identified the need for a review of standards related to the trailers used in our indu stry. Originally, we intended to deep dive into this project immediately following the Code of Excellence approval but we now feel that the ANSI initiative should come first. That said, we'll be looking for expertise related to this project later this year . We've had a handful of trailer manufacturers volu nteer their service thus far. We appreciate any help that we can get, whether it's on a topic - specific consultation basis or by becoming ful ly involved with the committee. May 27, 2015 WEEKLY EDITION
