Volunteer of the Year Award Join us in honoring Flay and Glenda Anthony www.psai.org +1 - 952 - 854 - 8300 info@psai.org PAGE 1 I t Was T ime! This year w hen the Awards Committee met, they did two things. Of cour se they thought about who would be s elected for this year's awards. But as they deliberated, they realized the a wards program had a bit of a hole in it. The PSAI – over its 44 - year histor y – has never established an award to recognize the outstanding volun teers who make our Association possible. Therefore, the committee established a new award to recognize exceptional volunteer service. This honor will be awarded annually at the Convention and Trade Show to an outstanding volunteer who has contributed to th e PSAI's success. As the Awards Committee thought about the crit eria for this new award - how they would explain to the membership what a Volunteer of the Year "looked like," and what their spirit of service would ideally be like - they kept coming back to two people …Flay and Glenda Anthony. The PSAI E stablished the "Flay and Glenda Anthony Volunteer of the Year Award" in Nashville. Flay and Glenda's tireless devotion to the PSAI this year – and over many years – has set a bar most of us will never reach. The PSAI is proud an d grateful to have them in our midst as volunteers and friends. Flay is a former owner of Porta - John of the Piedmont, a large company in North Carolina. His lovely wife Glenda was an elementary school teacher. Flay got involved in vol unteering for the PSAI way back in the 1980s. He served several terms on the Board of Directors, including serving in the officer roles – so he is one of our Past Presidents. In addition to his service on the Board, Flay was one of the people who helped th e PSAI office create the original standards, the prep course, and the exam for the certification program in 1992. Over the years he has taught the course more times than anybody can count. He is the "star" of our training video, and he has signed on to hel p us re - create this program so it is up to date with the knowledge and technologies that are available now. When the PSAI had a significant staffing shift in 2012, Flay spent time at the PSAI office in Minneapolis lear ning the ropes. He expertly planned t he international board meeting in Cali, Columbia in May of 2012 , and since that time he has been functioning as the PSAI's Director of Event Operations. If that sounds like a pretty important title, you' re right. Flay works at least 2 0+ hours a week – a nd a lot more around our events - all for FREE and for FUN. He does it because he loves this organization. Glenda, whose own career was outside the portable sanita tion industry, has been at Flay's side through it all – and she volunteers for the PSAI too. Sh e recently used her experti se as a schoolteacher to help the PSAI improve some aspects of our current certification exam. If you were in Nashville last week you probably saw her helping out the staff and assisting members – and she was smiling the whole ti me. That's Glenda. She just rolls that way. Please join us in honoring Flay and Glenda Anthony – Volunteers of the Year 2015!
