PSAI Association Insight, October 13, 2021 I 7 "I" is for International (continued from page 5) Canada Allan Baird Founded as Baird's Septic Tank Pumping in 1980 in Upper Onslow, Nova Scotia, Allan began his business with a single vacuum truck. Sensing the need for portable sanitation in the immediate area, he opened Go-Johns in 1981. Through hard work and community involvement, Allan grew his company through the years. He became actively involved in the PSAI as well as the local Waste Water Nova Scotia Society (WWNS). The knowledge that he gained and shared with the PSAI was invaluable in helping WWNS to succeed. His business philosophy is summarized on his webpage, "I have always made staying ahead of the game a priority by investing time, money and personal effort to upgrade equipment and techniques." I have heard Allan repeat portions and versions of this philosophy at various PSAI events. For his many contributions to the PSAI, Allan Baird was honored with the Andy Gump Award in 2014. Ken Winter Ken and his son, Roger, of K Winter Sanitation are highlighted in detail in the "Father and Sons – Part 2" chapter of this publication. OASIS – Ontario Association of Sewage Industry Services This association was established in 1991 "to support businesses in the septic, portable toilet, and biosolid land application industry." Through the years OASIS and the PSAI have worked together on several projects, such as industry training and certification materials. As of this writing, there are over 165 member companies in Ontario and throughout Canada and the US.
