17 I PSAI Association Insight, September 15, 2021 Indiana University Men's Soccer Team by attending ALL (both home and away games) from 1982 to 2008. Their dedication and support of the PSAI was just as strong as that for the Hoosiers soccer team. In 2005, "Ron & Gladys" were the recipients of our industry's highest honor, the Andy Gump Award. In 2008, the couple retired and today, Ameri-Can is operated by the third generation of their family. "A Scout is kind." On a personal note, Ron was extremely encouraging and supportive to me in my role during the PSAI's difficult period from 2011-2013. An occasional phone call from Ron in response to various updates that we were providing to the membership meant a lot. He usually made mention of the fact that Scouts in general and Eagle Scouts in particular knew how to work hard and to do the right thing with honor and dignity. His support, along with that of many, many others was very inspirational during these challenging times. I end this tribute to Ron Bird with the Scout Law. This century-old pledge encapsulates Ron's character and outlook on life: THE SCOUT LAW A Scout is …. • Trustworthy • Loyal • Helpful • Friendly • Courteous • Kind • Obedient • Cheerful • Thrifty • Brave • Clean • Reverent After being separated for 5 months since her passing, "Ron & Gladys" are now together, forever. We miss you!
