Preparing for Weather Events: PSAI and Members Work Together to Counter Misinformation By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director Apparently it seemed like a good idea at the time. During the 2019 hurricane season, the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) sent out an email to its members with some suggestions about how to prepare job sites for the impending storm. Among them was this nugget: "Push over portable toilets and secure them by placing concrete blocks or sand inside." As soon as PSAI Members Ross Ambrose of Porta Serve in High Springs and Jennifer Corrigan of Naples saw this communication, alarm bells went off inside their heads. We all know portable restrooms are vulnerable to high winds. We also know that it isn't possible or practical for portable sanitation operators to pick up and store every portable unit that might be in the path of a storm. Still, the tactic recommended by FHBA was just a bad idea. So Jennifer and Ross sprang into action.
