12 I PSAI Association Insight, July 21, 2021 James "Brock" Morton PSAI Scholarship winner Brock Morton is the son of Corey Morton, Director of Sales and Business Development at Walex Products Company. Brock is a recent alumnus of Topsail High School located in Hampstead, North Carolina. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA, taking a wide range of honors courses along the way. During his school career Brock varsity lettered in la crosse. He also spent four years involved in 4H shooting sports, placing in the top 3 shooters two years in a row. He was a DECA member for two years and made finalist both at the regional and state levels. Brock also participated in FFA, the 4H Teen Council, and Ducks Unlimited. He is described by teachers as "standout student and a leader." Outside of school activities Brock held several part time jobs during his teen years. In addition to working as a handyman for a stone restoration firm and as a dock hand for a boat storage company, Brock put in a stint at Walex. During the summer of 2019 he worked 40-hour weeks as a metal shop apprentice there, becoming intimately familiar with various aspects of manufacturing deodorizing products for the portable sanitation industry. Next year, Brock is heading for North Carolina State University. In applying for the scholarship, Brock shared, "I absolutely love being outdoors and participating in any activity involving hunting, fishing, boating, and will put in the hard work to have the most success in each venture. My passion for business inspired me to take marketing and microeconomics in high school and become a member of DECA. I am excited to [use] both my interests and my strengths as I pursue a degree in agriculture business management. Where this will lead in a career path, I am still unsure but I am excited to start the journey!"
