ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JUNE 9, 2021 Page 13 History of the PSAI Scholarship Program…continued from page 12 Rebecca (Stewart) Donaldson "What an honor, several years later, to learn that I was the first recipient of this scholarship for all four years! It was truly appreciated during my years at a private college, and very inspiring too that the PSAI has blessed many students with this scholarship over the years! The McCarty Family has a positive impact on everyone they encounter, and I cannot think of better people to grow up around. Now my kiddo hauls around the porta potty pencil holders from TSF on his toy trucks and trailers. What a positive environment to have as an influence on many generations. Congrats on having an impact on so many students' lives as they pursue higher education! And congrats on the PSAI 50th Anniversary!" Emmalee (Stewart) Kemp "Congratulations on the PSAI 50th Anniversary! I am honored and grateful to have received the PSAI Scholarship for all four years of my college career from Fall 2012 through Spring 2016. I valued this scholarship as it has helped myself and many other students achieve their goals in higher education. I am currently a Title 1 Teacher in my local elementary school. The McCartys have been so beneficial to my family and the communities they serve. My husband works for them, and my son is influenced daily by them as he gets to hang out there while I work. Thank you again for this honor!" Scholarships for Those Now in the Portable Sanitation Industry Kasey (Herring) Salvetti is one recipient who is influential and successful in our industry and in the PSAI. A Scholarship Recipient in 2005, Kasey now owns of Luxury Restroom Trailers by Privy Chambers based in Oregon. Kasey shares her thoughts on the program: "At the time of applying for the scholarship (2005), I was familiar with the portable restroom industry through Mark Herring, my father, but didn't yet have set plans for a career path. The scholarship through the PSAI allowed me to expand my perspective horizons. I ultimately received a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology with an emphasis ins Archaeology and Biological/ Forensic Anthropology. "The PSAI Scholarship gave me the opportunity of education and truly shaped my worldview. "Now, as a portable restroom operator (since 2013), you might think, 'wow, that's new, but how does archaeology help a portable restroom operator? How did that scholarship help you become an operator?' My answer: Lots of ways! Attention to detail, organization, research and critical thinking, time management, confidence in my abilities, respect, and empathy for others; all the things needed to complete my degree, I use every day in operating this company. And, in a twist of fate, the large archaeological project I was a part of before transitioning to the portable restroom industry, was a project based out of Paisley, Oregon in the Paisley 5-Mile Caves, where our team found and identified the oldest anatomically modern human coprolites ever found. You guessed it; a 'coprolite' is poop! It was always in the stars!" Continued on page 14 Rebecca (Stewart) Donaldson Emmalee (Stewart) Kemp Kasey (Herring) Salvetti
