Ken Holyoak, a longtime friend and associate of Harvey's, attended the PSAI 40th Anniversary Celebration in San
Diego in 2012. Ken shared his remembrances of Harvey and used adjectives such as "dynamic," "inspiring," and
"motivational." Sadly, we lost Ken in 2017 and many of his stories will go untold about "his dear friend, Harvey."
The PSAI lost Harvey Heather, truly a pioneer of the industry, on June 2, 2019 at the age of 93.
Final Thoughts
This is the fourth in a series of articles in which our "Industry Pioneers" are profiled. These early hard-working
individuals had a common goal—to improve public health through the creation of portable sanitation. The
contributions of these pioneers were vital to the success of our industry as well as the PSAI.
Harvey Heather was an innovator. As a contemporary of the
other pioneers of manufacturing we have profiled—Al Hilde, Ed
Cooper, George Harding, and Ed Crafton—Harvey brought the
industry from the "movable outhouses" era of the 1950s and
1960s to the portable restroom units we enjoy today. His life and
dedication to both our industry and our Association should serve
as an example to us during our 50th Anniversary Celebration.
A special thanks to Jim and Jamie Wachsman for their consistent
and persistent assistance in helping to clarify several conflicting
pieces of information about this amazing person. v
