ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION MAY 12, 2021 Page 20 Well, Dorothy was not ready to call it a night. She went to the owner and staff of the club and paid them to let us stay for another hour. She also paid the bus company and driver extra to take the last revelers back to the hotel after midnight. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed life and there was no quit in her. Another of my favorite stories about Dorothy was one she, herself, relayed at one of our PSAI get-togethers. She was in the sales and marketing arena and, from everything I have ever heard, she was extremely successful at both. She told the story of an encounter with one of their largest clients. Dorothy spent a great deal of time and expense constantly promoting her business. They purchased season tickets to all of the St. Louis area professional sports teams and lavished their clients with a great experience whenever they would take them to these events. They also offered a variety of outings and gifts to enhance their presence with their clients. One of these adventures was that Dorothy took their largest client on a very expensive fishing trip. Dorothy loved to fish among other outdoor activities. During the fishing outing, Dorothy had the opportunity to have some great conversations with their client. At one point, Dorothy asked her client why he was always beating their company up over their pricing. She stated that every time they tried to raise their price, this particular customer would call her and complain and threatened to pull all of his business and go to one of her competitors. Dorothy asked him flat out, "Why do you do that to me every time?" He answered her by saying, "Because you let me." What a great lesson! Sometimes we in business are our own worst enemy. No one can intimidate you into doing anything unless you let them. v We are the world's largest trade association serving portable restroom operators and suppliers!
