Safe Parking Program Grows
Based in Santa Barbara, California, the Safe Parking Program
provides safe spaces to park overnight for those who live
in their cars. An estimated 262 people in the city live in
their cars; more than half use the program. The county has
authorized funding for additional spaces, though finding lot
owners willing to join the program is a challenge. All lots
include portable toilets and hand sanitizing stations or access
to bathrooms, as well as monitors and case managers.

Hygiene Station Offers Dignity
In Washington State, the city of Tacoma is spending $25,000
from its general fund to create a 30-day Hygiene Station Pilot
Program near an encampment of people who are homeless.
The station includes portable toilets, hand washing stations,
garbage bins, on-site overnight security, and routine daytime
monitoring. The city partnered with a private property owner to
establish the hygiene station. It's not clear what will happen at
the end of the 30-day period on April 7.

Laser Lights Welcome Spring
From March 18–21, just in time for spring, Six Flags Great
Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey will host a drive in laser
light show. The show, which will feature heart-pounding
music and dramatic special effects, can all be enjoyed from
patrons' vehicles. Vehicles will be spaced to allow for physical
distancing of those who exit their cars to use the portable
restrooms or purchase snacks and beverages. Masks are
required when patrons are outside their cars or when they
have their car windows open.
