Nationally right now fuel costs are rising again and that's another thing that can have a big impact on our company's books. We just need to stay on top of that kind of stuff. I fought wildland fire for 20 years in a previous life, and we had a saying that we used with our crew, "Adapt, improvise, and overcome." That just fits for any industry, and certainly for the situation we are in. We have to be willing and ready to adapt at a moment's notice, change the way we're doing things, and keep moving forward to overcome the situation. Young People Can Learn Emergency Management through FEMA Service Program Is there a young adult in your company or family who would benefit from expertise in dealing with emergency management? Is this a skill you want to grow within your company? The FEMA and AmeriCorps partnership program, FEMA Corps, is seeking talented and enthusiastic adults 18–26 years old to serve the country before, during, and after disasters. FEMA Corps is a volunteer service program designed to give young adults the chance to be exposed to and work in the field of emergency management. Over the course of 12 months, FEMA Corps works to assist communities prepare for and respond to disasters. Members will travel across the country to assist in FEMA's mission. Many FEMA Corps alumni go on to become professionals at FEMA and other levels of government. They also work in fields that directly help provide services during disasters. Applications are now open for the summer class of FEMA Corps and will close on April 1 for team lead positions and will close April 15 for member positions. Visit AmeriCorps.gov to learn more.
