The PSAI's 50th—The History of Conventions and Trade Shows…continued from page 5
Fact: Contrary to what many newer operators in our
industry may believe, Nashville (and the Gaylord
Nashville Opryland Hotel pictured above) was not
always the home of "The Pumper Show" until it
moved to Louisville and then Indianapolis in 2012.
Bob Kendall lists other places to which this industry
convention traveled:
• Biloxi, Mississippi
• New Orleans, Louisiana (two years in the
Superdome)
• Dallas, Texas
• Fort Worth, Texas
• Las Vegas, Nevada
• Palm Springs, California
• Long Beach, California
Fact: Although the PSAI has yet to have an international conference or convention, there have been a series
of Spring and Fall Board Meetings that have taken place in various locations throughout the world. In 1994,
a Spring Board Meeting was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and that same year the Fall Board Meeting was
held in Toronto, Canada. Since that time, the
PSAI has reached out to various international
associations and members throughout the world
with meetings in:
• Manchester, England
• Dublin, Ireland
• Germany (three meetings)
• Vienna, Austria
• Barcelona, Spain
• Bridgetown, Barbados
• Vancouver, Canada (two meetings)
• Nassau, The Bahamas
• Nova Scotia, Canada
• Cali, Colombia
• Sydney, Australia
The 2012 Cali, Colombia Spring Board Meeting was
special. PSAI Certification was offered in Spanish and
I was able to train, with an interpreter, 39 candidates
from 13 different countries in Central and South
America. This "mini-conference" with international members pictured above really reflected the "I" in the PSAI.
In 2015 a large group from the PSAI visited ADCO,
the parent firm of Dixi and Toi Toi, outside Ratingen, Germany.
