Expect OSHA Changes from Executive Order…continued from page 14
Anticipated Impact on Portable Sanitation
Since we do not know yet what the requirements will entail, it is hard to forecast the possible impact on portable
sanitation businesses and customers. We can make an educated guess that an ETS will require employers to
create a plan to minimize worker exposure to COVID-19. Many companies have already done this—or versions of
this—long ago.
Other experts predict an ETS will cover things like personal protective equipment; administrative controls like
distancing, circulation of employees in limited numbers, and requiring work from home when feasible; sanitation
and housekeeping; and employee training. This would not be a surprise. It was discussed on the campaign trail
and covered in the December 9 issue of Association Insight.
Now that the Administration is off the campaign trail and
OSHA is doing its work more formally, all we can really
do is wait and see—with an expectation that OSHA's
response to the President is unlikely to be, "All's fine here;
no need to change a thing!"
On the upside, the PSAI published numerous tools for
member companies as far back as April 2020. So the
new OSHA requirements may not have much effect for
those firms that have already been implementing our
recommended practices. Once the new guidance is out,
we'll update our resources to help member companies
comply. We all can agree that keeping our employees and
customers healthy is a good thing. v
