Provisions of the New Coronavirus Relief
Package…continued from page 2
• Deferred payroll taxes. In August 2020 President
Trump issued a memorandum allowing businesses
to defer payroll taxes through the end of 2020.
These taxes were then due to be paid in the
first quarter of 2021. Few companies have taken
advantage of this program because of the
complexities involved with implementing it and
its short duration. For those who have chosen to
defer these taxes, the CAA extends the repayment
period to December 31, 2021. Interest and
penalties will begin to accrue January 1, 2022.
In addition to these business provisions, the relief
package includes an extension of expanded
unemployment insurance, providing $300 per week for
all workers receiving unemployment benefits, through
March 14, 2021, and provisions to end the practice
of surprise medical billing. Other CAA provisions not
specific to businesses cover transportation, agriculture,
education, broadband access, and funding for the
COVID-19 vaccine. v
