BIWEEKLY EDITION JANUARY 6, 2021 Page 1 It's hard to know what to believe right now. Is the pandemic nearly over because we have a vaccine? Is it getting worse because there's a new variant of the virus? Is the economy going to boom with pent-up demand as soon as everyone can be together again…or will it sink dismally into recession as the realities of "the new normal" and all it has cost are truly known? I don't know. Nobody does. In the January 20 issue of Association Insight, we will publish the best information we have about the economic outlook for the coming year. It will be based on real data and the educated guesses of experts. That is to say, it will be the best shot in the dark we can give you. Ideally, we'd have published it today, but the data were not finalized in time for this issue. What I offer you today will, I hope, help you set the stage for the coming year of uncertainty. It also extends the refundable employer payroll tax credit for paid sick and family leave through March 2021, although the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which mandated paid sick and family leave for COVID-related situations, was not extended and expired December 31st.
