ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION NOVEMBER 11, 2020 Page 5 Continued on page 6 Developing a Fleet Safety Program for Portable Sanitation Fleet vehicle accidents are among the most costly of injury claims for business. According to the National Safety Council, the average cost of a loss related to vehicle accidents was approximately $70,000 in 2014. This was almost twice the cost of the average workplace injury ($36,592) that year. While nothing will prevent every bad thing from happening, a fleet safety program can go a long way toward helping prevent avoidable accidents with your fleet. A generic safety program is better than none. But it is far more effective to specifically design a program for your company and your fleet. A fleet safety program establishes the policies and procedures that are needed to help ensure a safe work environment for employees. It can also help protect against liability from vehicle accidents. Because the road is one of the most dangerous places for your employees, establishing a formal and ongoing program of screening, testing, inspection, and training is essential. At the PSAI's upcoming Virtual Conference and Trade Show, fleet safety experts Aaron Kelley and Mark Nugent will show you how to develop and use a such a program in your portable sanitation business. The course will be taught in two parts. Take one or both of them. Fleet Safety Part I—Best Practices in Creating Your Fleet Safety Program Wednesday, November 18 from 1:00pm–2:30pm This section will cover: • Driver screening, training, coaching, and supervision • Use of in-cab cameras and other technology • Managing accidents when they occur Fleet Safety Part II—Record Keeping and Liability Management Thursday, November 19 from 1:00pm–2:30pm This section will cover: • Best practices for Driver's Daily Inspection Records (DVIR) • Successfully navigating gate checks • Identifying and managing liability exposure related to your fleet Instructors Aaron Kelley and Mark Nugent bring with them decades of experience in managing fleet safety programs.
