Just one restroom was available for staff, volunteers, and reporters. This year, thanks to a grant, the County's Supervisor of Elections was able to promote voter education and improve the tabulation center. She hired an event company to erect a tent for people who wanted to watch the counting. In addition, she brought in two portable sanitation trailers complete with air conditioning, piped in music, sinks, soap, and paper towels. Read the full story here. Upscale Toilet for Space Use After six years and $23 million, the US space agency is finally installing its new toileting system on the International Space Station for a test run. Obviously, space toilets are more complicated since there's a lack of gravity in space. The new model is also more accommodating for women. The funnel that takes away urine has been changed, as has the shape of the seat on the unit which takes care of solid waste. Another space toilet will be installed for the Artemis 2 moon mission. Read the full story here. Bringing Books Back to the Loo First tested at a Garden Beats festival in Singapore, a new concept in portable toilets hopes to "help literature reclaim its rightful place." The new Looterature units, presented by Geometry Singapore and Storytel, are motion activated to play audio books when patrons enter and while they use the facility. Users are then invited to scan a code (no touching needed) to take the story home with a 30-day free trial. Units are also decorated with designs of classic literature.
