HOLLways and Roundtables Supply Practical Information to Your Company By Todd Ginter, PSAI's Director of Marketing "Every time I attend a PSAI event I learn a new way to improve my business." One of the biggest hits at the 2019 Convention and Trade Show in Mobile, Alabama was the introduction of the PSAI's HOLLway sessions. These information-packed short sessions provide Hands On Learning Labs (HOLL) in topics that matter to the portable sanitation industry. Industry leaders who are experts in their field lead each session. Operators have described these sessions as "Roundtables in 3D." The good news is that HOLLway sessions are returning as part of the 2020 Virtual Educational Conference and Trade Show. Catch them Thursday, November 19. Our 2020 HOLLway Sessions HOLLway sessions are opportunities for you to learn by doing. In a virtual environment this is trickier—but your instructors will do their best to make these sessions about practical, hands-on strategies for handling some tough challenges in your daily work. There will be three 25-minute sessions with two breaks of five minutes to move between learning stations. We are excited by this year's topics and presenters, and we know you will be too. A full list of topics along with a synopsis of each is listed below. • Navigating DOT roadside safety inspections: Join this session to learn key points for preparing for inspections, records required, and how to address deficiencies. • Sink options for winter…and beyond: In this session, learn tactics for placing sinks to avoid freezing in the winter, what to do if a sink does freeze, and design innovations that are needed from manufacturers. • Choosing the best truck for the job: This session will cover how to assess truck needs based on business strategy and the evolving freshwater requirements since COVID-19 has increased hand washing. • ADA compliance and issues in portable sanitation: Learn the difference between ADA "accessible" and "compliant" equipment as well as the many necessary considerations to ensure a site meets the requirements of the law. • Customer/employee communication in the COVID-19 world: It's a pandemic and face-to-face communication is not the same. Sometimes it's not even possible. Yet our industry is essential, and operations continue. This session will look at ways to ensure critical communication is boosted and relationships are maintained when social distancing and COVID-19 precautions are required. • Handling COVID-19-related HR issues to boost safety and morale: The session will cover how to introduce, adopt, and monitor changes in employee behavior and business protocols that are needed as a result of the pandemic, as well as considerations for if, when, and how to relax those protocols in a "new normal." • Trailer evolution for the "new normal": Trailers are in greater demand than ever, and what is needed from them is changing because of the pandemic. Learn ideas manufacturers are considering and modifications to existing trailers that others are trying.
