On July 23, Garmin users on social media were expressing concern about inaccessible website features. Four days later, Garmin released an official statement confirming that a cyber attack had taken place. Garmin assured its users that no personal identifying information (PII) was compromised. On July 27, the City of Lafayette, Colorado was attacked by ransomware which encrypted the city's computer networks and caused disruptions to phone services, email, and online-payment and reservation systems. After taking stock of the situation, officials opted to pay the cyber criminals the ransom they demanded, deciding it was the fastest and most cost-effective way to restore municipal services to residents, rather than starting from scratch which was the only other option. Since the beginning of the PSAI in 1971, few topics have generated more interest and diversity of opinions over time than the features and functionality of those trucks. Last week, the PSAI hosted a virtual roundtable discussion on how the ideal truck for our industry is evolving. This article captures the ideas shared in that session.
