This family in Guatemala is just one example of the many families across the globe whose lives could be saved with access to sanitation like that provided by the PSAI's Member companies. Preserve. As a biology major, I have spent a large amount of time studying the environment. One particular biology lecture during the spring of my freshman year focused solely on climate change and the harm humans are causing the earth. By the end of class, after witnessing the harsh evidence and graphics revealing the state of our planet, feelings of hopelessness and doom began to set in within my classmates and me. Sensing this, my professor ended the lecture by telling us, "The most important thing you can do to help preserve our planet right now is save water!" Portable sanitation is something that does exactly this. As stated on the PSAI website, portable restrooms and sinks save 125 million gallons of water every single day. Choosing to use a portable restroom over a traditional bathroom can be a part of your contribution to preserving our planet. Provide. One of the biggest benefits to portable sanitation is convenience and mobility. We have all relied on portable restrooms at a soccer tournament or an outdoor concert, but for people like construction workers, portable restrooms are part of their everyday lives that allow them to work efficiently without needing to leave the worksite to find a bathroom. Portable sanitation is also key for disaster relief. Whether it be a hurricane, an earthquake, or a flood, portable restrooms can be quickly brought to the affected regions. So when people are left without electricity, running water, and maybe even their entire home, sanitation can be one less thing to worry about. The stigma surrounding portable restrooms in the United States tends to motivate people to drive to their local Starbucks before stepping into a porta potty. However, there are many ways in which portable sanitation keeps the world healthy and happy. So, the next time you have the option of using a portable restroom, don't focus on the pee, poo, and paper, but on its ability to protect, preserve, and provide. v
