ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JUNE 10, 2020 Page 3 Checking in with Members: 2020 Trends and Topics…continued from page 1 Continued on page 11 What is Your Biggest Challenge Now? Since this question covers a broad scope of conditions, all responses are given in their entirety: • Bob Earl—Keeping everyone, employees and their families, healthy and safe. • Jan Bentley—Everyday business operations and getting necessary products. • Tom Stange—The future of the events business. • Nancy Perez—Day-to-day operations and the anticipated need for additional sinks in 2021. • Keven Schneider—Not knowing what the future will look like. • Keri Madden—Equipment. We deal heavily in trailers, and small trailer availability is a concern. This is in addition to the need for more sinks and sinks in units—which are required in Canada. • Steve Finley—In discussions with multitudes of operators daily, adjusting to the new normal is the answer that I hear most often. Additional training and enforcement of PPE for employees as well as the crazy demand for hand wash sinks and hand sanitizer stations are also common replies. Have You Seen Increased Demand for Services and Supplies? Interestingly, all respondents stated that the demand for twice weekly service is up and, primarily, by their actions to promote this service. Both suggestions by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Ministry of Labor in Canada have been used as support for this safety practice. Kevin Schneider sees this trend continuing into at least next year. Also, all respondents spoke of the overwhelming demand for sinks and hand sanitizer stations. Bob Earl, like many other operators, purchased a barrel of hand sanitizer and is refiling empty bags as a way of attempting to meet this heightened demand. Have Special Events Been Canceled? How Are You Handling Contracts for Next Year? Bob Earl, Tom Stange, and Kevin Schneider stated that no cancellation fees have been imposed. If payments had already been made, they inquire if the payment or deposit could apply to next year's event. If not, their companies have given refunds. As Tom Stange stated, "if we have not yet begun to prepare for the event, we will gladly issue a refund." Bob Earl Operator Survey Participants • Bob Earl is president of Enviro- Clean, Clintondale, New York, which services the suburban area in and around New York City. • Jan Bentley owns Portable Services, Augusta, Georgia, which services Augusta and some areas of neighboring South Carolina. • Tom Stange owns C & L Sanitation, Inc. in Perrysburg, Ohio which services Toledo and neighboring areas of Michigan. • Nancy Perez heads A Clean Portoco in Harlingen, Texas which services the Rio Grande Valley and Brownsville, Texas. • Kevin Schneider is president of 1st Jon in Whittier, California which services Los Angeles County. • Keri Madden runs Room To Go, Inc. in Millgrove, Ontario which services the Province of Ontario, Canada.
