Special events in 2020? Do these activities still exist after the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic? Yes, they do, but not in the traditional business model that operators have experienced. This year, special events are either being canceled, rescheduled, or newly created. Current Environment—Events Canceled and Postponed Cancellations of extremely large events have received the highest level of national attention, and the operators who service these events have experienced significant financial setbacks. Consider some of these event eliminations from throughout the country: • New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade, which averages 150,000 marchers and 2,000,000 spectators, was canceled. I will admit I am sad we were forced to cancel this year's event. I sincerely enjoy seeing all of you face to face, catching up, and learning new things. I know I am not alone when I say the PSAI is my family away from my family. Like most of you, I am worried and frustrated that this COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our world so swiftly. I will always do my best to help be a part of a solution and not dwell on the things I cannot control. I am embracing the situation and working hard to learn as much as I can; I want to take something positive from this. I strongly believe this terrible pandemic is a good opportunity for our industry to make a move toward higher standards while we have the public's attention. We routinely advocate for "Better Work Sites, Better Weekends, Better World." This needs to be more than a tagline; it has to be everyone's new normal.
