ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION APRIL 15, 2020 Page 2 The COVID-19 Planning and Mitigation Checklist Effectively managing your company during an infectious disease pandemic like COVID-19 is critical to protecting the health and welfare of your workers and their families, the people you serve, and the public's health at large. To assist portable sanitation companies in this effort, the PSAI has adapted and clarified a checklist prepared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response. The checklist identifies specific activities your company should consider and address to prepare for, respond to, and be resilient in the face of COVID-19. Although the activities in this checklist are specific for COVID-19, many pertain to any public health emergency or disaster. The underlying checklist adapted by the PSAI was first developed by HHS from a variety of HHS Pandemic Influenza Pandemic Planning resources. Portable sanitation companies' decision makers should determine for themselves whether the firm is taking adequate measures based on the realities of the disease outbreak(s) in the area and the needs of the business, keeping in mind the laws and authorities with jurisdiction there. The PSAI strongly encourages continued review of guidance on the cdc.gov website for the most current information. This checklist consists of four sections covering forty-five essential planning topics. These include: • Safety and Infection Control Activities such as steps you will take to mitigate or slow the spread of the disease, keep your team safe, deal with shortages, and create contingency plans. • Operational Activities such as response configurations to changing demand from customers, prioritization of calls, expedited hiring and training, and make-do scenarios. • Communication Activities addressing internal and external audiences and changes in the modes of communication that are available. • Business Management Activities such as how to do business with FEMA and to track your gained/lost business during the crisis. Here's a snippet from section 2 of the tool to give you a sense of how it is laid out: Continued on page 13 PSAI Announces New Tool to Help Companies Navigate COVID-19…continued from page 1
