Introduction
The portable sanitation industry provides a series of valuable services to users around the world. When sewered toilets,
handwashing facilities, and related conveniences are not available, portable sanitation companies offer a necessary and
respected alternative.
Sources estimate there are about 3.6 million portable restrooms in service around the world, with English-speaking North
America representing between 2.0 million and 2.2 million of that total.

As of 2020 the PSAI estimates there are 8,938 establishments in the United States involved in providing septic services and/or
portable toilets. Of these, some 3,436 are firms in which septic pumping and portable toilet rental are a primary business line
and about 1,122 are companies engaged primarily in the rental of portable toilets and other sanitation-related equipment.
