Next Steps
The current study confirmed what the PSAI's leaders and Members already knew from anecdotal information: the evolving
waste disposal situation is putting enormous pressure on company leaders and threatening bottom lines. It is a beginning,
but more work needs to be done to help portable sanitation companies determine the best path forward for addressing their
disposal challenges. At a minimum we should:
1. Create an ad hoc committee focused on waste disposal to develop a set of specific, actionable recommendations for
the PSAI over the next 3-5 years to help Member companies navigate obtaining and maintaining adequate waste
disposal.
2. Create resources and content for Association Insight, the Industry Resource Directory, and the Industry Library to assist
Members facing immediate waste disposal challenges.
3. Ensure that PSAI training sessions and educational events address waste disposal issues including new technologies
that may be available as alternatives to POTWs.
4. Build alliances with the professional associations and societies that are related to waste disposal, and determine
whether there are projects of mutual interest, including those related to educating waste treatment personnel, public
policy and political advocacy, that could help alleviate some of the challenges described in this study.
5. Commit to repeating this survey every 3-5 years to track progress and evolving solutions in the industry.
