As shown in Figure 14, the cost to dispose a load of waste ranges from $60 (Georgia) to $450 (Colorado). Most often the cost appears to be between $75 and $88 per load. Generally load size was not specified by respondents. • Disposal per gallon. More commonly, the cost of disposal is charged by gallon of waste. The range here runs between $0.03 per gallon (New York) to $1.00 per gallon (Mississippi). A simple average of the costs given is $0.14/gallon and a 10% trimmed mean—basically, an average that excludes 10% of the data at the high and low ends to reduce the impact of extremes—is $0.111/gallon.
