WEEKLY EDITION OCTOBER 9, PAGE 12 YEAR END EDITION DECEMBER 26, 2019 Championing Sanitation Worldwide By Todd Ginter, PSAI Marketing Manager, continued from page 10 Karibu Loo Karibu Loo, its website says, was "created to help solve two of the great needs of Kenya—better sanitation and providing education." It is an affiliate of Ngong Road Children Association, which works to educate impoverished children in Kenya. Children who obtain an education through the school can then work at Karibu Loo to gain job skills and launch their careers. Just this year, the company launched an online strategy to build its business. The success of this effort has turned Karibu Loo from a sales driven company into a consumer-based operation. Non- commissionable business (derived from consumer initiated sales) accounted for more than 70 percent of their revenue in the second half of 2019. To continue this shift, the company has been more intentional about branding and outfitting workers in matching t-shirts, jackets, overalls, and rain gear. In August, Karibu Loo won the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Award for being the best sanitation supplier in Kenya. The award is great for building the company's reputation. In 2020, they intend to strengthen their online and social media presence while pursuing business opportunities in the construction industry. Portable sanitation is still an emerging business in Kenya. Karibu Loo is fortunate to have received capital donations from supporters like Satellite Industries (Satellite's Todd Hilde actually helped to start the operation). And it is grateful for the role the PSAI has played in growing the social enterprise. For its part, the PSAI is gearing up for the fourth annual Urgent Run in Reno November 2020. We invite all Members to consider how they might like to participate in raising awareness about the global need for sanitation services. If you would like to learn more about participating as a sponsor or runner or both, please write to Todd Ginter at toddg@psai.org or call 952-854-8300.
