Many factors affect restroom and specialty trailer performance in freezing temperatures. These include:
• the temperature and humidity
• wind
• frequency of usage.
Operating a restroom trailer in freezing temperatures requires much more care and attention than in
fair weather. Systems must be checked frequently to ensure a smooth operation. Most
manufacturers recommend the following for operation in freezing temps. In this list, the need goes
in order from warmest to coldest temps.
1. Heated cabins and mechanical rooms
2. Heated water lines
3. Insulated waste tank
4. Heated waste tank
5. Heated dump valve
6. Trailer skirting
7. Forced air under the trailer
Driving
Motoring down the road in a tank vehicle is different than
driving the family sedan. This is even more true during cold
weather. Before you leave the yard, here are some things
to check for winter driving:
• Ignition system
• Fuel system
• Belts (integrity, rubbing)
• Fluid levels (top off)
• Brakes
• Wiper blades and windshield washer fluid
• Tire tread and pressure
• Lights
• Antifreeze
Winter driving can be unpredictable. Be prepared for the
unexpected when you're on the roads.
