WEEKLY EDITION OCTOBER 9, WEEKLY EDITION NOVEMBER 27, 2019 PAGE 7 Lotha r Verm il li on: He Put the " I" i n PSAI By Jeff Wigley, Past President…continued from page 5 Lothar was also a very inspirational individual. From my own personal experience in dealing with the crisis in the PSAI from 2011 to 2013 where our very existence was in doubt, Lothar was very supportive and assured me that "the PSAI has the support from all of us across the pond." In September 2012, a surprise appreciation and retirement party for another industry icon, Barry Gump, was held at the Reagan Presidential Library honoring Barry's 48 years in the industry. Attendees were from all parts of the globe and, in typical supportive fashion, Lothar delivered a video tribute from Germany. Lothar was always on hand to provide support and praise for others while downplaying his own contributions. In 2015, Lothar worked very closely with Executive Director Karleen Kos and Flay Anthony in planning and coordinating an extremely successful PSAI International Board Meeting in Germany. Always looking to involve and to promote portable sanitation on a worldwide basis, Lothar once again coordinated a very successful meeting with members of the BDE as part of this trip. Continuing to be the dynamic and involved statesman for our industry, Lothar was yet again involved in 2016 in working with Karleen and others on the New International Standard on Nonsewered Sanitation Systems. Lothar worked through ANSI's German counterpart and with representatives from dozens of other countries to bring ISO 30500 to completion. Inspirational … involved … innovative … Lothar Vermillion will be missed on a worldwide basis. My hope is that in the future when you think of the PSAI, you will think of the inspiration for the "I" – Lothar Vermillion. I am grateful for the assistance and input about Lothar that was provided by Jeremy Hawkins, Ned Carpenter, Flay Anthony, and Ron Inman. Thanks to each of you for your insight, your contributions, and your time. A very special thanks to Ron Inman for providing vintage photographs of Lothar and his organization.
