WEEKLY EDITION OCTOBER 9, WEEKLY EDITION NOVEMBER 27, 2019 PAGE 5 Lotha r Verm il li on: He Put the " I" i n PSAI By Jeff Wigley, Past President…continued from page 4 Lothar served for many years as treasurer of the Association and had no desire to advance further on the Executive Committee to President. He wanted to do a good job in every group and association in which he was involved. Lothar, however, was the first president of the BDE—a German association aligned with portable sanitation—in the 1990s. In the early 1990s, Lothar helped the newly renamed PSAI have its first international PSAI Board Meeting in Europe. The meetings began in Dusseldorf at the start of a week in October and closed with a meeting in Munich at the end of the week. As Ron Inman describes it, "We made the 6-hour drive from city to city in 5 days. The Board and other PSAI Members that joined in the trip were shown a big part of the best of Germany and its people. Lothar handled all of the arrangements for our travel by bus, boat, and train down the Rhine River Valley. When we reached Munich, Oktoberfest was in full swing and we all experienced 'the real deal' thanks to Lothar and his planning." Ron also relates that several years later, Lothar helped to organize a meeting with the PSAI and the PSE (Portable Sanitation Europe) in London. Jeremy Hawkins, longtime PSAI Member and former Board Member, reflected upon the time that he spent working in Germany and working with Lothar. Jeremy states that, "Lothar was a true professional and was extremely knowledgeable of the industry." Jeremy also relates that in 1997, Toi Toi, Europe's second largest portable restroom company, bought Lothar's Dixi and adopted the ADCO name for the combined organization. Lothar remained involved and stayed with the company until 2005. He continued to work hard and to devote his life to our industry. Lothar also did consulting work and was always a resource for any portable sanitation group that asked for his assistance. Not surprisingly, in 2000, Lothar was awarded the highest and the most prestigious award in our industry, the Andy Gump Award. With more than 20 years in the industry at this point, Lothar was recognized for his contributions as a leader in our industry on an international level. CONTINUED ON PAGE 7
