• Others believe a higher level of cleanliness is achievable, desirable to customers, and important for
health reasons. These operators have worked hard to develop and employ procedures that both clean
and sanitize the units with the intent to substantially remove bacteria. This generally occurs using a power
wash system coupled with cleaning additives that have been tested and shown to kill a high percentage
of the bacteria in the unit, kills the mold that causes unwanted odors, and removes rust and calcium
deposits.
Going the extra mile by using products and procedures aimed at destroying a high percentage of surface
bacteria seems to be less common in the portable sanitation industry at this time. While most would agree this is
an admirable goal, whether it is possible to attain an environment at least temporarily similar to what is
achievable in a cleaned indoor public restroom is not something on which experts in our industry currently
agree. However, taking these extra steps and investing in systems tha t makes doing so easier for service
technicians is certainly one way companies can compete and differentiate themselves. It is worth thinking about.
