Attending association events as a member gets you the best prices for your necessary purchases, a chance
to learn how others are thriving during the downturn and provides a way to write off the trip as a business
expense. Your dues al so help the association advocate for causes that matter to your industry in a way you
can't on your own. During difficult times it is important to learn from others and know you're not alone.
Almost nothing else on which you spend money will pay you back a s much as your investment in your
associations. As one Member said to me after enjoying several round table discussions and a night out with
friends at the PSAI Convention last year, "It's cheaper and more fun than therapy!"
In the end, we cannot offer a silver bullet. No one can. There's absolutely nothing that will make your small
business one hundred percent recession - proof. But implementing the practices above to prepare and lead
your business will help ensure your company survives tough times and migh t even be able to profit from them.
