W EEKLY EDITION JUNE 26, 2019 P AGE 4 "The Importance and Value of Portable Sanitation" By Isabelle Fobbe , 2019 PSAI Scholarship Winner The environment, green and flourishing, took one of the biggest hits after the portable sanitation removal initiative. Now that plastic wasn't being used up to construct the various types of portable sanitation models, it began to overf low on land and in the ocean, killing off aquatic species and making most water contaminated and undrinkable to all life. Another benefit to portable sanitation was it saved water and allowed for limited electricity use. So, with the water being contaminat ed and there already being less of it then normal, further outrage occurred. Countries fought wars over amounts of clean water that would only fill a swimming pool. People grew severely dehydrated as they drank less than eight ounces of water every day if they were lucky, when their bodies needed eight times that amount to be healthy. The world was in shambles, and if only people knew that the solution was quite simple. Life could go back to the way it was with one simple fix. Blue skies and rolling hills were at the top of their fingers, just out of reach. The old man grew silent as he wrapped up his story, eyes flickering over the now sleeping children. His heart grew heavy as he listened to the yelling and the sounds of gunshots in the distance. He ho ped that one day, in these innocent children's lifetime, that things could be better for them. Maybe they would be the ones to restore peace, to bring back the one thing that provides value and importance to this world, the one thing that changed it all: p ortable sanitation. – I s a b e l l e F o bb e
