PSAI Announces Updates to Its Certification
Program for the Portable Sanitation Industry

The final Job Analysis identified the following basic requirements for frontline portable sanitation
professionals to be successful:
• Hold a valid driver's license
• Demonstrate the ability to read, speak, and write the English language
• Possess the physical strength and agility to perform the tasks required by the position
• Commitment to upholding the PSAI professional Standards of Conduct
Individuals who meet these basic requirements were then found to require co mpetency in five domains,
breaking down into fifteen subdomains and more than 90 discrete task items as shown in exhibit 1. For
details on each of these areas, please refer to the job analysis here .
T e s t i n g t h e J o b A n al ys is . Over the course of 2017 and early 2018, the PSAI - CC worked to validate
the job analysis with people actually working in the portable sanitation industry. Initially, the Commission
surveyed and analyzed the data from only current or recently past frontline portable sanitation
professionals. Those surveyed were asked to provide:
