What Research Shows about Basic Service Technician Competence

The PSAI broke ground in 1992 when it introduced the only portable sanitation-specific certification and training
programs in the world. as part of a comprehensive updating process for these important offerings, the PSAI has been
researching the requirements for service technician competence since 2015. In this session the presenters will:
• Describe the research process
• Explain the five knowledge domains in which service personnel must be competent to be safe, successful and to
serve their companies well.
• List the differences in how front line personnel and their managers view these major areas of responsibility.
In addition to the research findings, this session will cover how the PSAI's certification and training programs are
evolving to address these competencies. They will cover:
• The two types of certification that will be available beginning March 2019
• Basic eligibility criteria for each level of certification
• The separation of the standard development, training and testing processes
• Continuing education and recertification protocols for current and future credential holders
