PSAI Observes World Portable Sanitation Day and
World Toilet Day
• Solving this problem is leading to something known as "the sanitation economy ." The sanitation
economy presents vast potential for global economic growth while addressing one of the most
urgent grand challenges of our time, achieving universal access to improved and safely - managed
sanitation. It monetizes toilet provision, products and services, biological resources, data, and
information to provide benefits across the economy and society. As a robust marketplace of
products and services, renewable resource flows, data and information, the sanitation economy
could help transform fut ure cities, communities, and businesses via an intersectional approach
beyond that of solely market - based or government - provided solutions. The Toilet Board Coalition
depicts "sanitation economy" in a giant graphic showing the many ways businesses, individ uals,
governments, and NGOs will come together to address the sanitation crisis. PSAI Members are
business people. We are sure many will find opportunities within this expanding economic model.
