An article in our occasional series on changing the image of our industry… continued KOS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3 • I see waste residue. The black plastic door handle is waste, not rust. If the metal holding the door handle was rust, ther e would not be the same residue on the plastic on either side of the metal. The hand sanitizer looks to have waste residue on it. If a power washer was used […] all plastic pieces of equipment would be clean. – jw • The pictures you sent me are indeed mol d and bacteria buildup in the portable restroom. If you power wash with water and use a bucket and a brush with the blue deodorizer to scrub and wipe down the unit, it actually increases the mold and bacteria in the restroom. This is why disinfectants ar e so important to use when cleaning a restroom. Our industry is using detergents to "sanitize" the restrooms, which is equivalent to you and I using dawn dish detergent to clean our bathrooms at home, then going back and using the same brush to clean our dishes. We would obviously never do that. I have lab testing results … that prove when using the bucket and brush method of cleaning a portable restroom, the bacteria and mold is actually signific antly increased inside because the brush harbors all the ba cteria and is never disinfected. – dp P AGE 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
