WEEKLY EDITION OCTOBER 17, 2018 The PSAI Certification Program – Its Five-Year Mission By Jeff Wigley, PSAI Certification Commission Co-Chair With all of the new and innovative programs and initiatives coming out of the "New PSAI" since its inception in 2012-13, what has been going on with the Certification Commission? Well, for those "Star Trek" Fans, "we have been on a five year mission to seek out new life … to boldly go where no one has gone before …" A B riefing fr o m "Cap t ain Kir k"… When Karleen Kos came onboard in 2014, the PSAI took a tremendous and momentous step forward. As part of the plan to evaluate all of the programs of the Association, the Certification Program was assessed. The Certification Commission met in Atlanta in June of 2014 and the consensus was that this program, initiated in 1992, needed to be improved and updated. Since then, the goal has been to create a new accreditable program built on the rich knowledge and strengths of the old program. To begin with, the name and structure of the group changed to the "Certification Commission" from the "Certification Committee." This change occurred as the organizational structure moved totally and completely separate from the PSAI Board, from the Training and Credentialing Committee and from the Standards and Guidance Committee. The Commission serves the PSAI at arms-length in order to keep the eligibility requirements and examination independent, secure, and relevant to the entire portable sanitation industry.
