SAI8 WEEKLY EDITION OCTOBER 17, 2018 PAGE 11 New Non-Sewered Sanitation Systems Standard ISO 30500 Helps Support Safety and Global Sustainability CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6 Sun Kim, the Chair of the US committee mirroring ISO/PC 305, noted that the publication of ISO 30500 will have a significant impact on scaling of near-future non-sewered sanitation/toilet systems by setting minimum performance requirements to ensure personal and community safety. "Users will also have a more positive experience compared to many existing non-sewered systems used in environments with limited resources such as water and electricity, and most of all, ISO 30500's positive impact will be felt throughout the world, especially in areas with little or no sanitation services." PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos says, "The PSAI was pleased to participate in the development of this new standard. While the systems it will affect are not necessarily portable, the underlying technologies have great potential for affecting the portable sanitation industry in the not too-distant future. We look forward to continuing to work with our international colleagues on standards that will improve all types of sanitation around the world." All of the global experts who met in Singapore in June 2016 to start work on this project are pictured above. PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos is in the middle right of the front row.
