Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference 2018: The Site Visit
ANDERSON WASTEWATER CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
The more I'm with the PSAI, the more that rings true for me, professionally and personally. That's why I'm excited (truly) that the
schedule of events for this year's Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference includes a visit on Thursday, November 15 from
12:30-4:30 pm to the city of Largo's Wastewater Treatment Facility. And call me a geek if you want to. I can take it.
"I don't know if it's so unique, but we do have things that are cutting edge" says Irvin Kety, director of the Environmental
Service Department for the city, "I think people who visit will be impressed."
Largo's state-of-the-art treatment works processes 12 million gallons of incoming wastewater on an average daily basis. It gets
converted into reclaimed water and biosolid pellets. Also on the visit, we'll see the innovative NEW generator, a device that
mimics a miniature wastewater treatment plant without the usual energy-intensive aeration tank that blows air to break down
pollutants and the plethora of chemicals.
How does the WWRF work? This from the city's web site:
Environmental Services' (ES) wastewater reclamation facility (WWRF) supports the department's mission by receiving used
water from city residential, commercial and industrial customers and, through a series of enhanced natural processes, cleanses
the water to produce two recyclable bi-products. The first is a clear effluent that is practically of drinking-water quality, and the
second is residuals, which are de-watered, dried, screened and classified to produce a pelletized product.
